March 21st is International Fragrance Day!
People have been enjoying fragrances for thousands of years. The worldβs first recorded chemist was Tapputi, a perfume maker mentioned on a stone tablet from the 2nd millennium BCE in Mesopotamia. The oldest perfumery was discovered on the island of Cyprus and dated back to the Bronze Age. This perfumery covered an estimated surface area of over 4,000mΒ², meaning that perfume manufacturing was industrial.
In the Book of Exodus, the Bible also describes a particular sacred perfume consisting of liquid myrrh, fragrant cinnamon, fragrant cane, and cassia. Today, France is widely considered the world center of perfume and cosmetic manufacture. Around-the-world and at Perfumarie, there is an exciting movement of artistic perfumery and product development. Together, we are exploring the art and science of olfaction. Perfumarie is committed to empowering artisans and dreamers with technical expertise so thatΒ anyone can learn and create products for themselves with sustainability, wellness, and market viability in mind.
International Fragrance Day was created relatively recently to give us the chance to celebrate the scents that play essential roles in our lives.
The ways of celebrating this day are virtually endless, and here are some ideas that come to mind:
- Discover a new perfume.
- Take a trip down to the local floristβs to stop and smell the flowers or buy some fresh flowers to keep around the home!
- Cook a meal or even better - bake a cake and enjoy all the olfactive joy that accompanies the journey along the way.
- And if you love your dog more than anything in the world, so much you donβt mind his wet dog smell, take him out for a walk in the park, possibly a roll in the mud, and maybe even a dip in the nearby lake.
- Take a nice aromatic bath.
For those who would like to take the celebration to new heights, why not join The Fragrance Foundation at one of their special virtual events? Click on the image to register and attend!
