Batch / Lot Number Requirements
The FDA does not require batch numbers when:
- The company’s annual cosmetic sales are under $1M
- The product is bulk-amenity use for hotels, spas, or institutional clients
- The responsible party can trace the batch internally without printing it on the packaging
However, batch codes are still strongly recommended for traceability.

2. IFRA Compliance (Fragrance Safety)
Fragrance usage must meet IFRA Standards for the product category.

Clients shall specify IFRA compliance requirement before bespoke formula development, or a lab fee for reformulation will apply.
3. Microbial (“Micros”) Testing – Required for Personal Care
Before any batch is approved for distribution, products must pass:
- TAMC – Total Aerobic Microbial Count
- TYMC – Total Yeast & Mold Count
- Pathogen Screen (absence of ISO 17516 “Big 4”):
- E. coli
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Candida albicans

Perfumarie includes microbial testing for its bulk base formulas. Compounded micro and post-fill stability is offered as an à la carte lab service.
